The LSCP has just launched a fantastic and highly interactive online educational resource called the Learning Zone.Specifically targeting teachers of Key Stage 3 & 4 (11-16 year olds), the Learning Zone offers an excellent opportunity for teachers to help students actively develop an understanding of the dangerous consequences of inappropriate speed and red-light running.

The Police recently caught up with 2 serial speeders, making London's roads a safer place for everyone. The first dangerous driver appeared before Barking Magistrates Court to answer 15 counts of driving at excess speed. The driver pleaded guilty.

The LSCP and Transport for London exhibited at the British International Motor Show from July 23rd to August 3rd. 'Smarter and safer driving' messages were communicated via a stand featuring information on the LSCP, Car Clubs, Congestion Charging and Lift Sharing.

According to a Department for Transport (DfT) bulletin, fewer car drivers are exceeding 30 mph speed limits than ten years ago.The LSCP welcomes the decrease which is seen across all vehicle types, but most significantly amongst cars.

Paramedic Neil Kendrick and Emergency Medical Technician Mark Heinsen were jointly nominated in the Accident and Emergency Person of the Year category of the London Ambulance Service's annual awards. Both Neil and Mark have provided the LSCP with invaluable supported at various road safety events and educational activities.

The LSCP's community trailer has been out and about over recent weeks at family fun days in Redbridge and Dagenham. Melbourne Field in Valentines Park played host to the Redbridge 999 Day on Sunday July 13th. The LSCP joined other road safety and community exhibitors, including vintage car enthusiasts, in a day of 999 themed activity.

Recently premiered at Kingston Odeon cinema and showing at every screening there throughout July, 'What's Your Choice?' is a road safety advert developed by the RoadStars young people's road safety group from the Royal Borough of Kingston. The RoadStars aim to engage young people with pioneering initiatives to raise their awareness of road safety in Kingston.

The LSCP's new community trailer launched at the ever popular Danson Festival in Bexley recently. Thousands of people attended the weekend event which is a regular fixture on the LSCP's events calendar. The community trailer offered information, advice, hints and tips on safe driving, red light running and speed awareness.

The Croydon Road Safety Partnership (CRSP) attended its first event with a stand at the Croydon Motor Show held on a delightfully sunny weekend in June. LSCP staff supported the event with a display focusing on speed cameras and a highly engaging collision plot map highlighting all the collisions in the borough in the preceding 4 years.

It may seem hard to believe, but two people every week are killed or seriously injured on London's roads by motorists who don't obey traffic lights. However, as part of a wider LSCP initiative aimed at changing driving attitudes, motorists detected jumping a red light may now be given the choice of attending an instructive workshop rather than receiving a fixed penalty fine and points on their driving licence.

The brakes have been set on speeding drivers who attempt to avoid penalty points with the introduction of new front-facing speed cameras, which have been installed at two sites on Lower Thames Street to support existing rear-facing speed cameras.

Among the many motorcycle and clothing manufacturers exhibiting at the recent MCN London Motorcycle Show held at Excel, visitors also had an opportunity to have a look at the first joint Safety Camera Partnership stand, which displayed two crashed motorcycles. Derbyshire Safety Camera Team and the LSCP worked together to engage with visitors to discuss road safety and safety cameras.

Young people from schools, colleges and youth projects in 20 London boroughs attended the 'Risk It & Lose It' workshops involving a mock inquest held by a real Coroner, a dramatic filmed reconstruction of a crash, an interactive speed quiz and presentations from members of the emergency services.

LSCP staff went along to meet with other Partnerships and to discuss future working. The conference was split into three main areas, for Communications Managers, Data Analysts and Project Managers

The LSCP recently joined the City of London Police to celebrate the Lord Mayor's Show with over 6000 people from organisations across London.
Half a million people take to the streets each year to watch the show, and millions more watch on TV. LSCP staff and two LSCP mobile camera vans joined the three mile long procession which starts at Mansion House.
