Other LSCP sites

Trial sites
Camera manufacturers are constantly developing new technology. Before new technology can be used to enforce it must gain Home Office Type Approval (HOTA). The following systems are currently under trial in London (these systems are not enforcing).

Henlys Corner
A camera capable of detecting speed and red light offences is currently monitoring the A406 on the westbound approach to this junction (A406 junction with Finchley Road / Regents Park Road). This system has been developed by Redflex.

Mansfield Road, Camden
A camera system is currently monitoring Mansfield Road – Gordon House Road, Camden. The system uses three entry / exit points to measure average speed over the various routes between these points. This system has been developed by Speed Check Services.

Salter Road, Southwark
A trial of equipment which will enforce a 20 mph speed limit is taking place in Salter Road, Southwark. This system is being trialled by PIPS Technology, with assistance from the London Borough of Southwark. The system will calculate average speeds by monitoring vehicles at two points. Salter Road has a 30 mph speed limit.

Test sites
There are also a number of test sites in London. These are equipment test sites and are not enforcing.

Gillette Corner
A camera capable of detecting speed and red light offences is currently monitoring the A4 eastbound at Gillette Corner. This system has been developed by Truvelo (UK) Ltd.

Blackwall Tunnel
Average speed cameras are currently being tested along the A102 Blackwall Tunnel. Cameras are monitoring speeds along the northbound section of the tunnel, from the southern approach to the junction with the A13. This system has been developed by RedSpeed International.

Speed Indicator Devices (SID's)

Lower Mortlake Road
A Speed Indicator Device (SID) is currently being used on Lower Mortlake Road. A SID is a sign that can record and display vehicle number plates and speeds via an LED display. Vehicles exceeding the speed limit will see their number plate and speed flash up in red. Those travelling under the speed limit will see their details displayed in green, those on the limit will see amber. This system has been developed by Signway Supplies Ltd.

Temporary SID's
The LSCP are also installing temporary SID's at some new fixed speed camera locations. It is hoped that this will remind drivers of the speed limit and alert those exceeding the limit to modify their behaviour before they reach a fixed speed camera.
